Silent Night Piano Notes for Kids

by Kristin

You can help kids learn which notes to use to play Silent Night on the piano. Children get super excited about learning Christmas carols at this time of year. Take advantage of their excitement and you’ll see their piano playing abilities really improve!

I’ve created some special help sheets that you’re welcome to print out for free. Just click on one of the images below.

This first sheet is for kids who haven’t yet learned how to read music, but want to know the notes for Silent Night. There’s a keyboard diagram that shows them where to place their hands. Each note has a finger number above it, so all kids need to do is press the correct finger number. Easy! Note that at the very end of the piece, the child will need to cross over the right hand to play the final note. Other than that, the hands just stay in one easy position.

The next print out is for kids who can read music. This is an easy arrangement of Silent Night in which both hands are used to play the melody. This allows the child to place the hands in one spot to play the piece. There’s only one place where the child will need to reposition, and that’s at the very end to play the final note. It’s very easy to do, just make sure you explain it well.

Once kids know how to play the melody of Silent Night, you can teach them how to embellish the song by creating an easy left hand accompaniment. Watch this video for a demonstration, or visit Silent Night Piano Sheet Music to see more detailed instructions.
