Free Ear Training Worksheet: Same or Different

by Kristin

Here’s another free printable ear training worksheet for kids. The first step in developing the ability to recognize the relationship between two pitches is to learn to discern a repeat note verses two different notes.

Setup

Print out a copy of the worksheet and give the child a writing utensil. Have the child sit with his back to you, so he can’t see what you’re playing.

How to use the worksheet

First, try a repeat note. Select a key and play it twice. Allow time for the child to mark her answer on the worksheet. Check her answer, give feedback and play the keys again for her to hear. Now try two different notes. Make it easy the first time by playing two keys that are very far apart. Play them one at a time and allow time for the child to mark her answer.

That’s all there is to it! As your child skill progresses, gradually make the activity more challenging by playing notes that are close together.
