Melodic Dictation Starter Cards

by Kristin

Melodic Dictation Exercises

Melodic Dictation Level 2 helps students learn to listen carefully to a sequence of three notes. The first two notes are given and the student must discern the third note.

These starter cards show student where to place the first two notes. Hold up the first starter card and allow the children time to place the first two notes on their grand staff. Make sure they’ve correctly placed the first two notes before continuing.

Instruct children to listen carefully to the 3 notes you play and then fill in the last note. It will either repeat the second note or go up or down one step.

These starter cards can be used with tons of different ear training games. I’ve got lots of ear training games available on this website and teachers or parents can also make up their own ear training exercises and use these cards.

If you have an idea for how to use cards or come up with your own new game, you’re welcome to share in the comments section below. Everyone benefits when we share our ideas!
